Exactly. 99.9% of Windows users are clueless. Do you see my point now?

Knowledgeable people want to know every program that is connecting to a network. For these people, a software firewall that can't do outbound blocking is next to worthless.

Yes. I'd consider myself 'knowledgeable'. I don't use WIndows firewall because it's too easlily exploitable and it doesn't meet my other needs. Instead I have a BSD box handle the traffic to my home network. Application blocking is a pain in the butt, and something that I don't want to deal with. My method of keeping myself secure varies from yours, but that doesn't mean it's any better or worse.

By the way, there are not a whole lot of programs out there that can disable Zone Alarm from the inside AND suppress the warning it gives when it is brought down outside of its UI.

You are right - unless of course they are running Zone Alarm Pro, which has a full command line administration support, but remember - most Windows users are clueless and would only be frustrated and confused by outbound app blocking.

You almost sound like one of those users; you should see if you have Bargain Buddy or Wild Tangent in your list of running processes.

Naw. Considering the fact that I run AV software, never use IE, and don't even log on as a local admin when I use my Windows box, I think I'm relatively safe from adware/malware.
