How do you disable the Zone Alarm firewall (or even the Microsoft one) AND suppress its warning from the inside?
Well, for the Windows firewall...

From the shell:
netsh firewall ipv4 set opmode mode=disable

Vb script:
Set objFirewall = CreateObject("HNetCfg.FwMgr")
Set objPolicy = objFirewall.LocalPolicy.CurrentProfile
objPolicy.FirewallEnabled = FALSE

Or you can add an exception (which won't trigger any warning) to your firewall via this registry key:
HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services
\sharedaccess\parameters\FirewallPolicy\
StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List

As for Zonealarm, the process could be killed or the entires for it removed from the registry. WMI/Vbscript could probably be used to shut it right off, or add exceptions to it just like Windows Firewall.

How do you even get on the inside given the presence of a firewall, no IE usage, and enough knowledge to be wary of any attachments?

You don't, which was my point to begin with. As for normal people who are ignorant of security problems, the latest malware wil be sure to disable the most popular firewalls out there.
