You guys are forgetting...
...that MS has basically unlimited resources and a
staggering market share. If they needed to, they could
fix any code that they had access to. I assume this
includes any and all versions of Windows...ya know,
since Microsoft wrote them all. So, unless they have
misplaced the source code for their OS or something
similar, I would have to conclude that MS is not fixing
their code because they do not feel like they need to.
MS is a company, not a political organization, so they
respond to the everyday consumer, not the firebrand
lobbyists (in this case, the IT professionals). If there was
a widespread pressure from the average user to fix it,
they could do it. They may not like it, but they would.
However, no such pressure exists because many
people do not see the problems at all, and many of
those who do are too lazy or uninformed to download
patches, much less a major overhaul like the one that
MS could, theoretically, write. So, you are wrong in
principle; there IS a way to fix Windows...but you are
right in practice because it won't happen, at least not in
my lifetime. Bah.
