I agree but...
She was convicted of the murder, and she should do time. I completely agree with this outcome. In this instance, our legal system worked.

However, the ends do not justify the means. Even if someone is guilty of a crime, if the government uses illegal methods to obtain the evidence, they cannot be allowed to prosecute.

This legal theory is at the heart of our justice system. It is the basis for most conviction appeals. It is also at the heart of the controversies surrounding US detentions of suspects in foreign locations.

If my loved one were convicted of a crime, I would want to make sure that they got a fair trial, regardless of their guilt. In theory, this is one of the things which makes our system of justice preferable to others around the world. Without it, we might be placing people on scales and weighing them ala Monty Python to determine guilt.

For the record, I do not know if this woman is or was a witch.
