RE: Fraud abroad remains 'uphill battle' for eBay
I agree that they SHOULD be worried; I receive these miserable mails every week if not every day--and dutifully forward them to eBay and/or PayPal, as appropriate. I'll happily do what little I can to stop it but it's hard not to think I'm wasting my time. Realizing I risk getting booed, hissed, and maybe run out of Cybertown, I'll add my opinion that the success of these phishing emails is partly due to the poor reading, grammar, and spelling of a scary percentage of folks in the US. Most of this junk has terrible spelling, syntax, and grammar not to mention typos. I've nearly been caught a few times by more polished ones but because I was used to editing, some things just jumped right off the page! My suggestion to eBay and PayPal would be to do a joint effort by way of a blitz media campaign of short spots highlighting the security vendors' insignias to educate people to note what is missing! AND a bounty system for people in the countries with the worst offenders...let the governments there raise funds by prosecuting the biggest or most costly offenders. Too simplistic? Probably, ey?
