Windows ATM machines are elegant...
The fear of losing money for customers is negated by the elegance and robustness of the Microsoft interfaces on these ATM machines. I met with a local bank CIO who was concerned about the security of Windows ATM machines at a local CIO symposium here. I told him to forget the customers, focus on the end user experience. We then went and reviewed the films of his bank customers using the ATM machines. Most of the transactions took less than 2 seconds. When the operations guy said the ATM machine had been crashing and rebooting constantly, I pointed out to the bank officer that this "operations expert" had an iPod on his desk and was probably a FUDmonger. My rep then showed up and delivered the ROI/TCO story as only he can.
