""Hopefully, the day of the Windows network worm is over," Litchfield said. "It is not going to be foolproof, but in terms of getting it more secure, it will go a long way.""

No it won't, not until Win9X up to WinXP are removed from the internet and replaced with either a more secure Windows (in a way I hope Longhorn succeeds) or Macintosh or Linux or FreeBSD or better yet OpenBSD. Bottom line is that there is nothing Microsoft can do except make sure Longhorn is built right the first time and with security in mind. That is the only thing that will save the world from more of this sensless non-sense.

Next, all the infected PC's out there need to be dropped off the internet by thier ISP's. Done deal, until the users get a clue and start to become more proactive in maintaining thier PC's, they DO NOT DESERVE TO BE ONLINE!

Security is every PC owners job, but the vendors need to be accountable for thier product as well. The vendor also needs to ensure that it's product is not so poorly designed and built so as to put the user in harms way. Car manufactures, construction companies etc... have OSHA standards for safety that MUST be met before it can be sold. Cars have to meet certain safety criteria to protect the occupant not only from an inadvertant accident, but thier own stupidity as well (which causes probably 90% of the accidents in the first place).
