IT'S OUR FAULT not theirs
Sure, data mining is scary. Sure, if I type a drunken blog it may cost me a job ten years from now.
However, what people seem to miss is the fact that the internet is a PUBLIC forum!
If you do something embarrassing or damaging to your character at the local bar, or at a town hall meeting, or anywhere else in PUBLIC then you would not be surprised if it came back to haunt you. The internet should be viewed no differently. No matter where you post something or how much anonymity you THINK you have, it could come back to haunt you. This is not the fault of the big companies that compile this info and use it for a profit, or at least not solely their fault. Most of the blame lies on the INDIVIDUAL!
