Alpha Centauri on Linux.
Actually I've had the exact same thing happen to me on Linux. Upgrading a kernal required a new glibc to go along with it and that new version broke the Linux version of Alpha Centauri. The reason it's less of an issue on Linux is because if you have the source code you can just recompile and be fine. But for commercial software which is the majority of the Windows world you do not have access to and therefore cannot recompile the source code.
