Last year alone the cost to clean up the massive security mess that is attributahle to the MS platform was $ 200 Billions. Larger companies foot a bill that can run up to $ 5 million every time a major virus outbreak hits their PCs.

Can you give me a cost estimate for clean up for NON-MS platforms?

The fact that a PC no matter HOW MUCH EFFORT one invest on it REMAINS vulnerable HAS NOTHING TO DO with the PC count.
A hardened UNIX box is extremely hard to compromise. At the same time its functionality is NOT impaired by the security measures. A `hardened' PC would be almost unusable and you can NOT make it sufficiently hardened.

These are basic facts.

What you are talking about is the SPAM or the DoS attacks which can reduce the service or cripple different systems. But there is something called IPsec and there are transport layer protocols (TLS, SSL) which can provide the basic secure information transfer: authentication, encryption, integrity and non-repudiation. You can have secure transport for HTTP, SMTP and other protocols.

The little fact that you do not discuss is that it is objectively far easier to compromise a common ms windows PC than other more serious platforms. But ms windows were designed for the techno-less people so it DEFIES LOGIC the fact that by default ALL kinds of front or backdoors (and windows) are open....
