So what's the danger?
The danger is the development of unrealistic and unhealthy perceptions of male-female relationships. Well, maybe not unrealistic, because they DO happen. but unrealistic expectations. The study showed that the underage victims saw the encounters as "romances."

What exactly are we trying to protect our children from? From exposure to concepts about sexuality before they're mature enough to understand them. but that all goes out the window with "desperate housewives" and "sex in the city" and any number of prime time soap operas that parents bring into the home. Kids who may not be ready to think about sex suddenly have it thrown into their faces and shouted into their ears with the music they listen to. It's not a true statement that "if they start having sex, it's a sign they're ready." It's not a true statement that "if they aren't ready, none of those external factors matter." those things I mentioned play a part in emotional development. So if the only education a young teen gets on sex is from the school and from the television, is it any wonder they become ready prey to someone who doesn't appreciate innocence?
