Researchers are asking for trouble
The public (and law enforcement) want to see lots of drama and mystery on this topic despite the findings. We are a nation of the boogie man. It makes for great news fodder, politician brownie point potential and great topic to raise taxes for police on the street.

I'm afraid we are not interested in "scientific findings" counter to this.
