You are almost correct.
In case of MyDoom and Bagle both viruses dont use exploit other then User ignorance. In both cases takes effort to get infected. In both cases simple "don't open " would save you time. As of running as the Admin (root). When you install Linux or Windows XP in both cases OS creates privileged account by defult, in both cases user is presented with message telling him not to use Admin (root) account for day to day work and is given option to create regular user. In both cases exploit's exist that allows you to gain Admin (root) privilege. In both cases it is possible to deliver file that when is executed by the user it will perform tasks that user is not aware of. In both cases keyloggers exists that allow some guy to monitor your activity. Are there more security issues on Windows? Yes they are but only by the small number. Are they different then security issues on Linux or MAC? No, not really. So complaining about vendor its almost corect but not in instance of Bagle or Mydoom virus.
