You want a big target?
Then why are you wasting time with Microsoft? A big target that makes a real statement would be UNIX and Linux servers (over 60% of which run the internet, I don't have the exact numbers at the moment but I can get them...) that run the internet. The very backbone of computing.

So the larger target crap you spout is just that. By design, Microsoft OS's are easy to break and kill. The diversity of Linux / UNIX and even the Mac OS X systems, plus the fact that everything but the kitchen sink is NOT welded to the kernel is the first line of defense.

Every single Microsoft OS is built the same and restricts the user to just how much it can be diversified. If you look at thier server OS and compare it to their desktop OS you will find very little difference in architectural design and implementation. The differences are in how the systems work on the network and some local security policies, otherwise they are identical.

Makes it easy to kill them. Makes it easy to design an exploit that not only wipes desktops but gets the servers too.

Most of the bugs you talk about with Linux, are 3rd party applications that the vendors are kind enough to provide patches for. Another thing, many of them may not be installed on a system, this in itself renders the threat to /dev/null. You really do not understand how OS design and implementation plays a major role in security do you?

I am by no means an OS expert, but even I understand design theory and concept when it comes to security.

But the biggest target out there are the big iron servers running the internet, the cisco routers and medium web servers... all powered by UNIX, Linux or one form of BSD or another. Microsoft may be large, but they are also easy. I suppose you could say Microsoft is the cow of the heard whereas the other OS's are the ranchers.
