Please explain this assertion you make that virus writers "go where the money is". What do you mean? How is there money to be made from writing a virus which trashes hundreds of Joe Bloggs home PCs? Or are you concentrating narrowly on the "Spam" angle which many virus and trojans are currently actively exploiting?
How much value to Microsoft would an endless stream of Linux virus and security exploits be? You want to talk about incentive to create a Linux virus, there are Windows zealots out there (and probably a few in the employ of MS!) who would all but DIE to see a Linux virus emerge in the wild, doing even a fraction of the damamge MSblast, or Code-Red, or Anna K etc etc. You talk about "bang for the buck", Microsoft would probably collectively faint from ecstasy if even a single destructive Linux virus could be trumpeted in the news. Imagine if Linux had several virus worms and trojans every single month, like Windows does? The bottom line being, there is a fantastic amount of incentive for someone to create Linux malware. If Linux was as easily exploited as WIndows is, it would have hapened.
I'm not saying Linux is 100% safe, my beef is that Microsoft knowingly sell a defective product which they refuse to put right, because they're doing very nicely ($70 billion in the bak) thank you, WITH the defective, worm infested, virus riddled OS they currently peddle. - Posted by: whisperycat Posted on: 07/22/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
