- It seems more than a little ironic that those who profess to be champions of democracy and self-determination in the mid-east are so willing to take revenge when democracy in Panama clashes with "American interests." It makes it appear to the world that our convictions are a mere matter of convenience. If we truly believe in the right of others to disagree with ous, cutting off free trade and taking down their web sites is a poor way to demonstrate our principles.
