They don't need my fingers...
... because once my fingerprints have been scanned they are stored as a string of bits. If a bad guy gets hold of this string (say from a lost CD) he can impersonate me for the rest of my life (unless of course I have my fingers replaced!). Compare this to passwords and bank accounts or IDs that can easily be changed if compromised.
