Fingerprints *can* be forged...rather easily, it happens. I remember reading something in one of Bruce Schneier's "Cryptogram" emails about this - someone who wanted to prove the ability to do so, got some common materials from a drug store, made a fake "rubber thumb"...and successfully fooled a biometric print reader with it. Took him all of an hour to make it, from commonly available materials.
