Equal Degree of Vulenrability
You forgot to mention the NUMEROUS INTRINSIC vulnerabilities in the MS platform that are attributed DIRECTLY to very bad design (e.g., the RPC flaws) and the lack of any serious intention to deal with the problem at its roots.

The statment that if you secure them properly are all equally vulnerable/robust is meaningless since on the MS side you SIMPLY DON'T KNOW WHAT to secure and HOW to secure it. In UNIX you can CONFIGURE the system to be very robust to attacks. Additionally MOST Unix/Linux/*BSD are vulnerabilities on APPLICATIONS and NOT on the KERNEL itself. One can make sure that applications behave in a controlled fashion and NOT surrender root privileges to anyone.

In the MS windows applications are intimately connected to the kernel and any application FLAW becomes a kernel flaw almost directly. One does not have any control in what is going on in the kernel or the applications. Additionally people learn of some design/implementation flaw ony AFTER a virus breaks out that uses it.

The unintelligent structure of the windows kernel and its contorted relationship with applicatios as well as, the lack of any effective addressing of the real problems by MS is what making the windows platform INTRINSICALLY less robust/insecure than platforms that true engineers spent some decent design and testing time.

Cheer and happy patching; every platform suffers the same... right?
