ditto on board limitations
and good luck at work happy

the point is, that it's IMPOSSIBLE to give grandma and grandpa something that "wont have problems" simply because they haven't a CLUE how to operate a computer. period. ANYTHING you give them they can break, and i know from personal experience (stay tuned for www.helpdeskhell.com). the ONLY way to keep the completely clueless "safe" is to make it where they basically can't DO anything on the computer. can't delete files, can't run anything. social engineering is such that clueless users can be connived into doing whatever pretty much anyone tells them to (remember the virus hoax about the infected windows file with the teddy bear icon?).

my point is this. upon invention of the Ford Model T, there was no licensing scheme. there were no stop signs. there were no road laws. becasue there really wasn't a need for one. before you bought a car, you knew what you were getting, paid out the nose, and most importantly, TOOK CARE OF IT. nowadays with everyone including 16 year old's with no experience jumping into vehicles, there ARE licensing scheme's, there are classes, there is SOMEONE there looking over your shoulder before you actually go out into public with a several ton machine that can potentially kill an awful lot of people if not handled properly.

SAME with computers, and i hope to god someone calls for a licensing scheme, or at least basic competency classes before a new computer and a new user "drive" off the lot. just a little card that says "yes, this person has completed a little test, knows what he's doing, knows about spam, knows about phishing, knows about viruses, knows to not delete his system directory if he runs out of room for pictures of his grandkids."

that is the ONLY way, no matter WHAT you put into their hands (linux, mac, unix, freebsd, windows) they WILL find a way to break, if they aren't trained at least a SMIDGE. and these days with these unknowing people being the source for 75% or MORE of the spam on the internet, because of their virus ridden computers, i see a time VERY soon where questions about comptuter users being licensed is going to come up. and i hope it's soon.
