I've seen those problems too
Except the ADSL. Not sure here though but are there internal ADSL modems but why would you want one is beyond me.

For me the scanner didn't work, why? It was old, 1998 and I have trouble getting it to work in Windows 2000 let alone Linux. Lacking software is problem.

CD-RW had problem with that too but then that was like Red Hat Version 4. Did get it work eventually but it took trying a few differnt drivers.

Had trouble with an HP digital camera. Stupid piece of %$&@! My Kodak camera works slick with it though. No stupid software needed just a USB driver.

Distros today are amazing compared to one's I've tried over even 5 years ago. Things just work.
