"You zealots should get off your damn high horse and realize that a system is only as secure as the idiot at the keyboard makes it"
That's equivalent to saying "There's no such thing as a fast car or a slow car, the car is only as fast as the driver can make it". Wrong! There are fast cars and slow cars, and the same driver is constrained to drive slower in the slow car than the fast car. Just like the Windows user is constrained to be assaulted on a second-by-second basis by any one of the 90,000+ Windows virus, worms and trojans discovered SO FAR. Just like the WIndows end user is liable to have their data stolen, their identity stolen, the machine they paid for hijacked by a script kiddie in another country for the purposes of spamming. And All Windows users have "I accepted" to absolve Microsoft of any responsibility for anything that might happen once they have handed over the cash to Microsoft. WHich is why Microsoft don't give a rats ass as long as their $50 billion cash reserves are earning them stellar interest without any need to sell anything. certainly theres no pressing need to improve their petri-dish system, not as long as peoplelike you tub thump their ineptitude as if its something to be proud of.
Windows is insecure BY DESIGN. It's fundamental architecture, which cannot now be changed, only patched, is INSECURE. Why? Because Windows was never designed to be a multi-user Operating System. It was never designed to be a networked Operating System. And an Operating System, by the traditional definition, should not be tasked with the job of snuffing out 3rd party software developpers by including application level functionality homogenously in the low-level resource management functionality.
Why do you think safety critical systems have NEVER, EVER run on Windows? Why do you think Microsoft's market share in the safety critical system domain is ZERO? IS it because Windows cannot be made safe? Yes! Windows CANNOT be made safe. Like a wall with rotting foundations, the original architecture has been buried under endless props, patches, filers, scaffolding, and every time a new prop is fitted something else gives.
Every time I see a bank ATM with the Windows blue-screen of death on it, I snigger at the thought of people like you, claiming that Microsoft are blameless, and only clueless users are to blame.
If Microsoft initiate an in-aeroplane safety system, I expect to see YOU volunteering to validate it. Or perhaps they'll introduce Windows controlled life-support machines (with built in IM, web-browsing and email). You can be the first to put your relatives on it, yes? - Posted by: whisperycat Posted on: 07/16/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
