Linux Applications with massive security wholes
HEY WAIT A SECOND!!

150 websites... with apache holding ummm 90% of the web server market space?

If anyone has a list of the websites... (I don't but will the second one of these shmucks emails me the virus). I would like to know how many are running the 'secure' o/s and it's 'secure' applications.

You zealots should get off your damn high horse and realize that a system is only as secure as the idiot at the keyboard makes it.

I don't get hacked, I don't get virii... I don't run my windows box as an administrator while surfing the net or reading emails... I don't rely on windows to provide me with security I use 3rd party apps (kinda like you have to with linux eh!?)

Man this argument will continue ad infinitum but the fact of the matter is that both operating systems have their place... and hopefully linux will grow large enough to force pricing down on MS products and create a truly competitive market.

BUT linux will only grow based on the basis of ease of use and number of applications and then games that are available on it. NOBODY but techno geeks go out and buy a computer based on how 'safe' it is. They buy it to surf the net, read emails, use office applications and PLAY GAMES. BUT companies do look for computers based on security...

BUT

TCO & Implementation costs calculated on converting from MS to Linux on the desktop in this company was far too high... and the study was done by IBM. Admittedly that was based on the lack of functionality in the open source office products. (we use a large number of custom apps written using VBA). Another factor is we would have to turf the dozen or so cheap MCSE's MCSD's and MCDST's and hire linux guru's for almost twice the price...

Anywayz enough ranting...
