IMO, SMTP's probs are MAJOR - why no solution?

Think about it: if it were possible to effectively trace every email msg to its point of origin, SPAMMERS would be easily found and shut down, Worm- and Virus-infected peaseas could be easily spotted, and virus writers would have to be much more clever in order to avoid detection (and apprehension), which would most likely result in a huge decrease in successful outbreaks b/c only the upper end of the Bell Curve would succeed.

With SUCH WIDESPREAD and FAR-REACHING BENEFITS, WHY is there NOT a WELL-FUNDED CONSORTIUM working balls-to-the-wall to achieve a solution ASAP?
