The vulnerability in the article appears to be the one that affected Mozilla. If true, Mozilla's flaw was actually an underlying OS issue.

No, it was strictly a browser issue. It's not up to the OS to second-guess whether an application really needs to run another application, which is what shell: does.

Of course, it does turn out that Mozilla was just copying an IE "feature" here, which is what the NBM crowd insists non-MS browsers need to do. Apparently the IE fix will be out next month with XPSP2.
