Get REAL!
You are right: the more advanced a user becomes, the more
reckless they become.

BUT... you're absolutely wrong about the novice. The person
"who barely knows how to read e-mail" DOES open the
attachment because they are ignorant of the danger! And when
someone has set their system to open attachments by default
(because they are too lazy to learn or to think about it first), then
there's no defense whatsoever!

I work everyday with people of all levels of expertise. The novice
(and the arrogant) are the most dangerous of the users. They
really don't know what they are doing when they open Pandora's
Box and probably haven't heard anything (other than some hoax)
about the reality of their foolhardiness. What they have heard is
likely to be some myth spread by the Windows community to put
oil on the troubled waters and so they take the least difficult
path... that of no critical thought.

And as for updates and patches? Yes, they are in BIG trouble.
You've got to have your head in the sand if you think that most
home users have any idea about these things. "Why should I
update my software?" "It's too complicated!" "How do I know this
is a REAL update and not a virus like the last one?" It's the same
thing as with virus def updates: "I already have anti-virus
software. Why do I need to get another one?" They just don't get
it!

Why should it fall on the laps and shoulders of the users when
the professionals (the programmers and developers at M$) aren't
doing their jobs right in the first place? In medicine, it's called
"malpractice"!
