install base isn't the only reason.
i don't deny that the larger install base attracts more virus writers, but there are also two other factors which you ignore.
1) it's a fad to hate MS and the hacker sub-culture gives points for sticking it to MS
2) more importantly and more ignored, by windows supporters; MS/IE is just that much easier to crack... it's just so much easier to write viruses and maleware for Windows. They can exploit features that MS put into the system on purpose sometimes.
