Question...
Patches are coming down fast and furious from Microsoft. What if we wake up one day and Windows IS more secure than other OSes simply because of all the pressure that's put on them to fix it because they do get the most attention from virus writers after all, and they have a HUGE installed base that puts pressure on them?

I remember when Win95 just came out and MS said they wanted to make Windows the ultimate gaming OS. At the time DOS was the only way to run the high-end games and I thought they were dreaming if they thought Windows could ever run any kind of advanced game fast enough. Boy was I wrong... All the MS bashers might be wrong too about security.

Then what's going to happen if the seemingly only real advantage of other OSes over Windows goes away? Then what are you going to say?

I think there's two ways to look at security: You can have a false sense of security by using software that has only a tiny market share, like FireFox. Problem is as soon as there's ANY interest in it security holes will be discovered in it, just like last week. Don't be fooled into thinking it's so secure just because the virus writers have not found enought people use it to warrent finding the holes in the first place. The other way to look at it is to use the most popular software and expect holes to be found and patched because of the huge pressure that's put on it. If you do it right you can have a very safe environment, by using a firewall and always staying up to date on patches. So far I have not had one single virus or malware/spyware program in at least the last two years. For Window's supposed horrible security, and considdering the countless virusses out there, that's not bad I'd say, no matter what the anti-MS crybabies say.
