Excellent Post!!: If most of these programmers were to go to Sourceforge.net and join a community, MS would be cut in half with in the next few years.

The Linux OS is strong and I believe is here to stay. The only thing keeping it from making greater inroads to the desktop is the quantity and quality of the Desktop applications. Now that there is a fairly stable office suite available, many government agencies are moving to Linux. And many Corporations are giving it a second and third look.

Imagine what kind of damage a hacker could do to MS if they helped create a viable option to either the OS or the desktop applications that MS creates. It would be devastating to have just the local governments switch to Linux (and many of them are already doing just that).
