re: It'd be HEADLINE news
Nonsense! Every OS, including Linux and OSX is susceptible to the full range of maladies including trojans, virii, worms, adware, and malware. The differences with unix/linux/bsd/osx/aix/solaris is that 1.)'nix systems are far more difficult, by design, to compromise and 2.)once breached the damage is greatly minimized, localized, and easily repaired because of the way the OS was designed.. News of MS systems being attacked by a new variant of whatever is mostly greeted with a big yawn. A 'nix system similarly compromised would be news because of the rarity of the event more than anything else, an anomaly, a curiosity.
As to the 'Linux Fanatics', well...No BSOD, no system crashes or hangs, no 3rd party firewall, no 3rd party anti virus needed at the user level, no adware, no malware, near zero security issues, legendary stability and reliability, systems for all levels of expertise from the rankest newbie to the ultimate super uber geek, a full range of quality productivity software, etc. More installed systems in the US by far than Apple, and in some parts of the world 'nix systems are dominant. And all of this at a cost of pennies to the dollar vis a vis MS software and software designed to run on MS systems. Everone uses Linux.
