FTC Report
There are five reasons ID Theft stats are going down.

1. Fewer people are reporting it to them. Why report it when they do nothing but compile a statistic.

2. The US Patriot Act requires identifying documents that are instantly checked against nonpublic federal data bases for validity.

3. Many offenders who commit ID theft are family members, and their victims are reluctant, or outright refuse to report them out of fear of being shunned by other famnily members.

4. The current hot trend victims are newborns, infants, and minor children social security numbers, with the primary offenders being their same gender parents.

5. Credit reporting agencies and issuers of credit are reluctant to track back the actual sources of ID Theft to their own data base customers and employees.
