Do modems still exist?
I haven't used one in 3 years.

But anyway I doubt that would solve the problem. In fact, it could make them more vulnerable, because they would get overconfident in their security and become lax. Just because it's a unique protocol, that doesn't mean it can't be hacked. In fact, if it's underused, that may mean it has more holes than a tried and proven protocol.
