You people who are gunning for microsoft need to quit your whining. Major security holes exist in all web browsers, operating systems, and internet apps. Just read the tech news!

The first "virus" was written for Unix! The first Spam was sent on a Unix system! Why? Range of distribution!

What we need to do is institute real penalties for cybercrimes and put real resources into un-anonymizing internet activity and real emphasis on catching cybercriminals so that perpetrators can be caught and punished quicklyn and easily.

Its not the security holes that are the problem, its the risk/reward ratio for cybercrimes and the lack of ethics in the cybercriminals!

And its everyone's responsibility, from the OS programmers to the ISP's to the end users to do as much as possible to secure the information superhighway, catch the REAL wrongdoers (those hackers and scammers and phishers and spammers), and REALLY punish them. (I'm thinking Fear Factor meals 3 times a day for long periods of time.)

There is no such thing as a perfectly secure system. But the threat of REAL ability to find the guilty party, backed up with REAL punishment, would act as a wonderful deterent.

Make the crime unprofitable!

All current networking protocols need to be scrapped, and a new set of non-anonymous protocols and systems created. Every router needs to have built in security safeguards. Offensive systems need to be able to be quickly detected and cut off from the rest of the system. Software needs to be written that can automatically detect and repair errors and corruption within itself.

but all of this is impractical.
