It's the users fault for not using an reliable firewall system. Hardware Firewalls will stop every single worm known to man, unless you have configured it to specifically not stop traffic on certain ports. That is the nature of a firewall.
You are a moron, if you use a Windows PC and connect directly to the internet without sitting behind a HARDWARE firewall (Software firewalls are okay if you are still on dial-up, as they are about your only "affordable" option). With the price of stuff today, you can even pick up a cheap NAT/PAT cable/DSL router to use as a firewall, for less than the price of most software firewall products, and it will be more than sufficient to protect a home PC. That cures both problems, with services engaging prior to the firewall being brought up, as well as protecting you from getting hit before you can download the patch.
I take offense at the notion that "WE" as a collective are responsible for others laziness. Its never anyone's fault anymore, its always someone elses. No one accepts responsibility for anything anymore, and that's the problem.
If people would just stop blaming MS for their woes, and instead blame themselves, as they are guilty of one of two things, either (1) not taking the necessary precautions or (2) using a product where it is almost a NECESSITY to take the necessary precautions, and being too lazy to take the needed precautions. If they were too lazy to do what they need to do, they should switch to another platform that doesn't have the constant demands that the Windows environment does. If they chose to remain in that environment, and be stupid and lazy, then I fail to see how the blame should fall on anyone other then themselves and the stupid people who write these viri.
Whose fault is it if someone were to break into your house and either hurt your family or steal your belongings? Is it the house manufacturers fault, what about the Door maker? What about the security company that supposed to prevent that sort of thing? The blame rests completely on the person who broke into your house, and on yourself (if you didn't take the necessary precautions). So if you leave all your doors and windows open, and you leave all your valuables clearly visible through the window, and you go and shout to everyone about all the stuff you have inside and how easy it is to steal, and then someone comes and robs your family, is anyone going to feel sorry for you? Is anyone going to be responsible for that besides you? Think about it. - Posted by: tamuhockey Posted on: 07/06/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
