I thought I was at most danger at home where have broadband and use both firewall router and ZoneAlarm versus dialup at work. I have never been infected with any virus/trojans in over 20 years of computing. At least up til about 6 months ago. Was searching for work related info at work via dialup/IE6 (all Windows and AV updates current) when suddenly my display was filled with non ending popups and realized my luck had run out. Known but unfixed (for over many months) IE6 vulnerabilities had got me. Found and deleted 4 registry entries for yet unknown trojans that had to submit one day at a time to Symantec as they don't accept zips. Anyway learned my lesson. While Task Manager somewhat helpful here I'd recommend 3rd party software larsn such as Task Info to really know what is running on your system. Installed ZoneAlarm, Popup Stopper, AdAware. Next dumped IE6 for Mozilla. Was already using Eudora vs Outlook so no problem here. In short don't kid yourself, even though most recent pests prefer broadband DIALUP IS NOT SAFE. GET A FIREWALL AVOID IE. Learned the hard way.
