Many other tools you can include in that bag of tricks
There's also ad aware. Just yesterday it found 160 spyware entries that an updated spybot 1.3 didn't find. Then there's spywareblaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html) which is essentially a firewall but for spyware. It auto blocks the installation of bad ActiveX controls. Also IE-Spyad has been good (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,23332,00.asp). It is a registry file that adds a massive database of bad sites to IE's restricted sites zone. This helps to stop redirects. Finally there's CWShredder (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html) which is a special tool to remove remnants of coolwebsearch, one of the worst most notorious pieces of crapware sliming the net right now. I personally use all these myself and so far they all appear to be legitimate and do a good job doing what they are supposed to be doing.
