I also disagree with the post by jerry.pereu, which claims that only anti-software will keep you safe from e-mail scams and viruses. Only ultra-cautious, self-defensive e-mail viewing practices will keep you safe (or as safe as you can get). If you ever receive an e-mail from a source that you cannot identify as 100% safe, don't open it! Instead, right click on the e-mail and save it to a text-file in some scratch directory. Then use Notepad (which is ignorant of scripts, Word-macros, etc.) to open that file and view the source and body of the e-mail. If it has embedded graphics, trash the file and original e-mail. If the original e-mail has an attachment, the textual content of body should tell you whether whether or not you want to chance opening the attachment.
