I replied to an earlier article on this issue and discovered a link to an *open source and FREE* alternative reader to Acrobat: Foxit reader.

Since i started using this application, i haven't looked back - and unlikely ever will. The Foxit reader opens PDF files in quicktime - often loads within 2 seconds on my system.

I do sympathise, so do yourself a favour and make the smart choice to go Foxit!
