What is the problem?
Is this move going to eat into Microsoft's $38 billion war chest? No? Then it isn't a problem, is it?

Will the end user's problems be multiplied by an un-known integer factor >1, as multiple patches represent multiple "breakages" of exisiting functionality? Yes, of course, so again - is that a problem for Microsoft? No, of course not.

Does it "look" as though Microsoft is less virus infested and worm-ridden when patches appear only once a month? Yes, possibly, it was one of the reasons for making the switch.

Will end users be vulnerable to new exploits for longer under the "once a month" patching scheme? Why yes, but, we have already established that Microsoft's $38 billion is in no danger at all so end user perspective doesn't really come into it, does it?

Does it matter that the security community is not endorsing this change? No, the security community is only ever quoted when they are saying nice things about "trustworthy computing" in astroturfed soundbites. The rest of the time they should remember their place - parasites whose entire lines of business exist only because Microsoft Windows is shoddy, defective, barely fit for purpose crud.

Meanwhile anyone currently running a non-Windows OS is already a part of a wider, inter-operable, virus free, worm free, trojan free enviroment ... large, monthly, compulsary downloads of untested hacks to their respecyive OS's are not an issue.

Happy patching, Microsofties!
