There's some good stuff out there
"What technology professionals need to do is identify how such intrusions are taking place, and to create the logic necessary to prevent spyware intrusions--too difficult? I don't think so. As a matter of fact, I think the solutions already exist (they have for some time)"

There are some good tools to stop most all of this crap.

Here are some spyware removal tools:
Ad Aware: http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button
Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=mirrors

This is another good one. It's basically a firewall, but for spyware. It blocks the installation of rogue ActiveX controls. It also blocks rogue cookies for Mo Firefox! It's called Spywareblaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html

Here is something else. It's a registry file that, once installed, adds a massive list to IE's restricted sites zone. This will also block rogue elements by not sending your machine to those sites in the first place. It's called IE-spyad: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,23332,00.asp

Finally, here is a good trojan horse remover. It seems to be very good, as it was able to detect and remove bad elements that ad aware, spybot, and norton antivirus could not only not remove, but weren't able to detect in the first place! It's called TDS-3: http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/

TDS-3 was able to fix machines that were dogging me with mysterious crap that I could not seem to track down. I have been using all these tools for a while now and they are all legitimate. Hope this of some help to somebody. Of course one of the best ways you can prevent the installation of most of the baddies in the first place is too use a browser other than Internet Explorer. For a different, more interesting and exciting browsing experience, download Mozilla Firefox here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Simply click Donwload Now! towards the middle left. This browser is bringing excitement back to the internet and computing in general, it is THAT good! Enjoy!
