Re: Unix Douche
Plenty?

You were probably thinking that four or five hundred Windows jpg viruses were Linux viruses too because they had "linux" in their names when, in fact, they are not.

There have been less than 50 viruses written for Linux, but in 15 years only 7 of them were found in the wild, and only one managed to infect more than a few hundred boxes. It was called "Slapper". The rest were on only two or fewer computers, ie. in the laboratories of McAfee and other anti-virus houses.

Linux is now on millions of computers, and FOSS drives 70% of the Internet, yet ALL of the massive infections reported are on Windows servers and desktops. Linux infections are so rare they make news headlines when they happen, and you haven't seen any recently. Crackers prefer Windows to populate their zombie farms because Windows is so easy to infect in large numbers, remotely, but they have to manually hack into Linux boxes because Linux is immune to email viruses or website malware. They like Linux because a Linux box makes an excellent controllers for 5 or 10 thousand zombies, but manually attacking a Linux box is risky, and only the best succeed.

So, avoid rehashing MS PR memos the next time you try to bash Linux.
