If you're going to write something that will turn computers into bots to send out billions of spam mails/day, what generic platform would you target:

1. A platform that has 1% of the desktops in use
2. A platform that has 5% of the desktops in use.
3. A platform that has 90%+ of the desktops?

If it was 1776, and you were looking to advertise, how would you do that, would you

1. create an elaborate Television campaign that you'd air on all three networks 7 days a week 8 hours/day.

2. create 40 entertaining radio spots, which would air on every radio station in the country

3. put up a sign in front of your store and perhaps put up wooden post outside of town?

4. All of the Above.

If it's 1947, would your answer change?

Would it change again in 1993?

Why waste effort to attack a platform that almost nobody uses, and those that do tend to be extremely tech savvy and unlikely to get a virus on any platform?

As for Macs, if they manage to get to 20%, there will be more attacks on it.

Almost every security expert agrees that market, more than technology, is what protects these other platforms.
