RE: Spam-scam crackdown nets $2 billion in fake checks
While on the surface, it seems to be a no contest law and order matter, and the various law enforcers seem 'to have got their man'. There are two other possible angles to this whole mess. The first is, I suspect these scams are controlled from some kind of sysdicate in Great Britain or maybe Australia which not only runs this so called 'Nigerian scam', but also traffics human slave trade, and money laudering operation. It was confined to Nigerian, but has spread to many parts of the world. A couple of years ago, I recieved an odd sort of message from the 'scammers' in Lagos Nigeria. The writer didn't say anything at all about getting money, instead he or she pleaded for help to escape from Nigeria. He or she claimed her captors were forcing them to create these bogus emails as wellas prostitute for them. I forwarded this message to InterPol, not knowing what else to do. I do not know whatever happened after that.
A second possibility is that many of these 'scams' are real, and the upper wealthy do not like the idea that somehow their money has been stolen and is being redistributed in this manner - which if real, many poor people could find themselves richer.
