RE: Poll: Americans wrong about computer security
Did they ask users why their antivirus and antispyware programs were disabled or outdated? Sometimes I find these things so obtrusive that I deliberately shut them down just to get work done. The crapware "internet security suite" that came on my wife's laptop hogs her internet connection for so long, when she boots up, that she can't even check her email until it's satisfied with itself. This takes several minutes sometimes, which annoys the hell out of her. I can't keep it off the connection without disabling it altogether through msconfig. I am tempted to uninstall it, but then she will have nothing. The people who make this stuff need to give users more control over it, even it it means they are less "protected."
