It's a Windows problem right now...
There's no other current operating system where running antivirus
software is even desirable, let alone necessary. The antivirus
companies have a long history of pushing AV software onto other
platforms, and there's been zero long-lasting viruses in the wild for
any OS but Windows since Apple went to OS X and dumped the wide
open Mac OS 9.

There's no Palm virus problem.
No Windows CE virus problem.
No OS X virus problem.

What all these systems have in common is that there's no standard
applications on any of them that are designed to accept an object from
an unknown source and execute it with full user rights. Once
Microsoft made that a standard part of the OS, it immediately became
the only target worth attacking... because that's such a huge glaring
hole.
