Microsoft's been doing that for years, dude. If they didn't have things in place that are dangerously close to illegal under the RICO Act, they'd not be in business with their unacceptably long risk-periods on all too many issues.
Just to name two:
* ASN.1 vulnerability: > 200 days
* Vulnerability in OE: > 5 years
(the latter (broken OE address book security), they've said they'll /never/ correct, even though practically everything since the Melissa virus has taken advantage of it. Their reason? "It would require the entire application to be recoded from scratch." Which is a whine if I've ever heard one.)
