Rip off their scab.
Some execs take pride in "being above the details." Department managers owe it to the company's long-term health to show such execs how details can kill them.

I was just successful making this point to an IT-Naive by citing the corporate black eye and "death and destruction" I pulled from news stories of companies and universities either hacked into or crippled by malware.

But I had to rip off the scab of complacency with hard news examples.
