So did the MS Word Basic macro viruses....
[p]OpenOffice has bugs? No surprise. I've been saying that all along. Its just not a good office suite. I remember so many people on here trying to promote it and saying we have to use it because its free. Well look what you get..[/p]

Same thing you get when Gates decides to render your three-year old OS obsolete and stop providing support for it - or in the case of Windows Vista, to put a premenstrual tech assistant in charge of an in-house newsgroup and call it a "support community" - in lieu of actual tech support.

Gates is rapidly going to clever himself out of business - right now, Microsoft barely exceeds the level of support available with Linux-based OSes like Ubuntu.

[p]The thing that really makes this bad is that it doesn't affect just one platform but multiple platforms which makes it even worse.[/p]

You mean like the "Love" bug? MS Word Basic-based macro viruses? If you're trying to say that OpenOffice is somehow worse than Microsoft Office because a cross-platform bug exploits it, you're not making your case. MS Office had this exact sort of problem, and world business weathered the storm.

[p]Easiest solution? Uninstall OpenOffice.[/p]

The easiest solution is for users and businesses to adopt bulletproof security procedures such as... not opening documents from unfamiliar sources and using decent security software. That's how the mess with MS Office was managed and it's the only sure way to prevent both the current OpenOffice exploit and any new malware that may exploit undiscovered weaknesses in Vista or the current version of MS Office.
