Self Fullfilling Prophecy
The prophets of doom called the advent of the Internet (alias ARPANET) the "Gateway to Hell". The frightening thing is that we now live in a global microcosm that is inescapably tied to this 'gateway' - this 'binary blackhole'.

The human desire for ever increasing technological devices and technologies to aid the advancement of Society in general has meant such technologies as the Internet/ARPAnet were not only inevitable but necessary evils, if you will.

As always there are prices to pay for the technological juggernaut ploughing relentlessly thru history - and regretably, this is a sobering reminder of the fact.

The Internet has in essence 'schizophrenically mutated' into a uncontrollable, unpredictable creature. It has unfortunately reached the point where it is scarcely within any one groups' - or any one nations' - capacity to subdue.

Public image, greed fed by mass consumerism and the side-effects of globalisation are all central contributors to the ultimate demise of the true 'foreign nature' of the World "as we knew it" (i.e. prior to the advent of the Internet).

In so far as electronic mass media is concerned we cannot escape the reality of the statement: the public gets what the public wants. We demand better technology coupled with better deployment of such technology and yet seldom do we pause to consider the long term repercussions for taking such paths and decisions.

Be careful what you wish for, because you might get exactly what you want...
