You know what I think would be fun?

Any US-headquartered company with ANY China-based employees must pay to the US the tariffs China assesses, in whatever industry China is currently assessing the highest tariff by percentage. I think that would be a lot more fun than playing Big Blue chess and other number-crunching cipher-decryption contests as proxy for a Cold War 2. I think that unfortunately, a simple mandate to prohibit offshoring to China, or to any other particular country would fail due basically to the ease of complicating the discourse on offshoring, globalization, etc to include a lot of valid-sounding red herrings. But, requirements of symmetrical tariff policies, if the US voters decide THAT is the important issue of the upcoming elections regardless of what any campaign strategists try to sell us, would accomplish the same result, and do so with a little more allegiance to typically American principles*.

* Apologies to the native English speakers for the awkward phrasing of that sentence. The same thing could have been expressed more concisely, but only at the expense of using words not allowed to be read in China.
